English Premier League Weekly Update | A Dutch Highlight and Lowlight

by The Income Access Team

With Euro 2010 matches taking the place of regular Premier League play this week, we have decided to focus on a highlight (and lowlight) of the past week. To narrow it down even more, and given their recent performance at the South Africa World Cup, we are focusing on the Dutch Contingent of the Barclays Premier League.

HIGHLIGHT

Rafael van der Vaart recently laid rumours to rest pertaining to his dramatic £8 million transfer to Tottenham from Real Madrid.

After previous stories laid claim to Bayern Munich’s interest (worth a supposed £18 million), it was revealed that there was alas another bidder instead – Liverpool.

rafaelVan der Vaart claims there was no “concrete” offer from the German club, but that it was indeed Liverpool that had expressed a keen interest.

It has become a recent trend to see many Dutch players come over to the Barclays Premier League.

“Now it’s happened and I am really looking forward to playing against Dirk (Kuyt), against Nigel (De Jong), against (John) Heitinga.”

LOWLIGHT

Speaking of a Liverpool fail, Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt tried a maneuver this week that landed him on the sidelines for a prolonged amount of time.

“He tries that manoeuvre a lot but this time it went wrong,” Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk said of the incident, which took place in training ahead of the Euro 2012 qualifier against Group E rivals Finland in Rotterdam.

Kuyt has supposedly torn some ligaments in his shoulder (something this blogger knows about first-hand) and will be out recovering.

Kuyt’s injury means that Liverpool will be without the starting Dutch national player, who now joined Aresenal striker Robin van Persie and Bayern Munich forward Arjen Robben as a growing number of injured Dutchmen.
